Moong Dal 


  • 1 cup Moong dal
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1  tomato puree
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4  tsp Red Chili Powder
  • ½ tbap coriander powder
  • 1 tsp ginger chopped
  • 1  tsp garlic chopped
  • 1 green chili chopped
  • for garnishing chopped coriander leaves and ginger julienne
  • salt as required


  1. Wash and soak Moong Dal for 2 to 3 hour in the water.

  2. Boil dal in about four cups of water, along with turmeric, salt, Cook till tender and well blended.

  3. heat oil in fry pan. add the ginger and  garlic and saute for 10-12 seconds. add the chopped onion and fry till transparent light brown. add the tomato Puree.
  4.  Add all spices  cook till tomatoes become softened and oil separates from the spices.
  5. now add dal and water, salt as you required stir and simmer the dal for 3 to 5 minutes.

  6. Garnish with coriander leaves, ginger julienne and green chili chopped.

  7. serve dal with Chapati or Rice parantha.
