Dal Makhani


  • 1 cup whole Urad dal 
  • 1/4 cup Rajma
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 green chilies ,
  • 1 piece cinnamon
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 2 no finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Deggi  mirch powder
  • 2 cups fresh tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup fresh cream
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tbsp fresh cream for the garnish


  1. Wash and soak Dal for overnight

  2. Boiled  dal in about three cups of water, along with salt, cinnamon, cloves,  and cardamoms Cook till tender and well blended.

  3. Heat ghee and butter in pan add the cumin seeds When  they begin to splutter then onions sauté till the onions turn golden brown in colour.

  4. Add the ginger-garlic paste cook for while then add all spices and  tomato puree cook till oil separates from the spices.
  5. Add the dal,  and water if required and simmer for 5 to 8 minutes.
  6. Add the cream and mix well. Simmer for 2 to 3 more minutes.

  7. Serve hot garnished with coriander and fresh cream.
